March 21, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers softball team commence their Atlantic 10 regular season slate Saturday when they host a doubleheader against Dayton at the D.L. Phillips Softball Complex at noon. The 49ers, who are currently enjoying the second-best winning percentage in the league, enter the weekend with a 15-16 record.

The pair of wins allowed Charlotte to clench an automatic berth to the conference tournament.

Sophomore outfielder Serena Smith currently leads the team and the conference in RBI wtih 24, while junior second baseman leads the league in hits (38), runs scored (27) and stolen bases (16). Freshman Katy Hackett is ranked third in the conference in ERA (2.38), second in strikeouts (looking; 30), first in wins (7) and third in saves (2).
