Hurley, a former all-conference outfielder at the University of Akron, assists in all aspects of recruiting and other daily operations of the program, with an emphasis on working with the Charlotte hitters, outfielders, and catchers. "Melissa's primary role on the field is to guide and coach the offense," said DeVos. "And she did a fantastic job of that her first year with the team. She also works with the outfield and catching staff." Hurley spent the two seasons prior to Charlotte as an assistant coach at Augusta State University in Georgia. As a senior, she was team captain and she was named the Team MVP as well. Hurley graduated from Akron with a bachelor's degree in sport and exercise science in 2003. She earned a master's degree in health science from Augusta State in 2005.
