Bryant and Huecker Named Soccer Buzz Freshmen All-Americans

Whitney Bryant and Sam Huecker became the fourth and fifth different 49er to earn Soccer Buzz Freshmen All-American honors

Dec. 28, 2007

Charlotte, NC - Freshmen defender Whitney Bryant and midfielder Sam Huecker were both named fourth-team Soccer Buzz Freshmen All-Americans. They join Jill Currie (1997), Courtney Crandell (2002) and Lindsey Ozimek (2004) as Charlotte 49ers women's soccer players that have been named Soccer Buzz Freshmen All-Americans.

This season, Bryant and Huecker, who both earned Soccer Buzz Southeast Region All-Freshmen team honors, helped the 49ers tie the school-record with 16 wins en route to the A-10 regular season and tournament titles and the third NCAA Tournament berth in the program's history. Bryant earned All-Atlantic 10 Tournament honors after helping the 49ers to the A-10 Tournament title.

Bryant was named second-team All-Atlantic 10 as well as to the A-10 All-Rookie team. Bryant played an integral role in helping the 49ers defense record 11 shutouts and limit 18 foes to a goal or less. Bryant also scored a goal this season.

Huecker earned honorable-mention All-Atlantic 10 honors as well as A-10 All-Rookie team honors.

Huecker, who earned A-10 Player and Rookie of the Week honors this past season, finished the season tied for the team-lead with six goals, with all six of her goals coming in A-10 play. She was second on the team in assists with six and points with 18. She scored the game-winning goal in the 49ers A-10 regular-season title clinching win at Saint Louis.
