Three 49ers Earn Soccer Buzz All-Southeast Region Honors

Lindsey Ozimek was named second-team All-Southeast; while Whitney Bryant and Sam Huecker were named to the Southeast All-Freshman team

Charlotte, NC - Three members of the Atlantic 10 champion Charlotte 49ers women's soccer team earned Soccer Buzz All-Southeast Region honors. Senior midfielder Lindsey Ozimek, who was named the A-10 Midfielder of the Year, earned second-team Soccer Buzz All-Southeast Region honors. While freshmen Whitney Bryant and Sam Huecker earned Soccer Buzz Southeast Region All-Freshman honors.

Ozimek, a 2004 Soccer Buzz Freshmen All-American, has earned Soccer Buzz All-Southeast Region honors in each of her four seasons at Charlotte. While, Bryant and Huecker join Ozimek, Nikki Dumencich, Courtney Crandell and Christina Papp as 49ers that were named to the Soccer Buzz Southeast Region All-Freshmen team selections.

This season, Ozimek, Bryant and Huecker helped the 49ers tie the school-record with 16 wins en route to the A-10 regular season and tournament titles and the third NCAA Tournament berth in the program's history. Ozimek and Bryant both earned All-Atlantic 10 Tournament honors after leading the 49ers to the A-10 Tournament title.

Ozimek was just named first-team NSCAA/adidas All-Southeast Region. She was also named one of five first-team Lowe's senior All-Americans. Ozimek was one of ten finalists for the Lowe's Senior Class Award which is the nation's premier award for NCAA senior student-athletes.

Ozimek was just named first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American. Ozimek has been named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in each of the last three seasons and has earned first-team honors the past two years.

 

 

The senior midfielder scored the final goal in her career against Clemson in the NCAA Tournament which moved her into a tie for the team lead in goals with six. She became the first recipient of the A-10 Midfielder of the Year award this season after leading the A-10 with 13 assists. Earlier, this year she became the program's all-time leader in career assists and she finished her career with a 43 assists. Ozimek was also named first-team All-Atlantic 10.

Bryant was named second-team All-Atlantic 10 as well as to the A-10 All-Rookie team. Bryant played an integral role in helping the 49ers defense record 11 shutouts and limit 18 foes to a goal or less. Bryant also scored a goal this season.

Freshman midfielder Sam Huecker earned honorable-mention All-Atlantic 10 honors as well as A-10 All-Rookie team honors.

Huecker, who earned A-10 Player and Rookie of the Week honors this past season, finished the season tied for the team-lead with six goals, with all six of her goals coming in A-10 play. She was second on the team in assists with six and points with 18. She scored the game-winning goal in the 49ers A-10 regular-season title clinching win at Saint Louis.
