Charlotte, NC - Three Charlotte 49ers women's soccer players have been named to the first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District III women's soccer team, selected by CoSIDA. Senior Kelsie Ormsby (Raleigh, NC/Garner HS) and juniors Lindsey Beam Ozimek (Charlotte, NC/Riverside HS) and Nicole Labuda (Climax, NY/Greenville HS) earned first-team honors. These three players were also named to the Atlantic 10 academic all-conference team.
Labuda, Ormsby and Ozimek, who all earned academic all-district honors last season, join Lindsey Franklin (1997-98), Kim Miles (2003-04) and Leslie Canales (2003-04) as the only five players in the program's history to earn multiple academic all-district honors. The 49ers have now had at least two players earn academic all-district honors in each of the last four years.
Labuda, who earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors, has a 4.00 GPA in Mathematics and Economics. She leads the team and ranks among the league leaders with nine goals this season. She has scored nine goals in each of the last two seasons giving her 18 career goals which is tied for the seventh highest total in school history. This season, she has also tallied a career-high five assists giving her a career-high 23 points.
Ormsby, who earned second-team All-Atlantic 10 honors, has a 3.92 GPA in Biology. She is tied for second on the team with a career-high six goals. The senior captain has also anchored a 49ers defense which has recorded five shutouts and limited ten foes to a goal or less this season.
Ozimek, who has a 4.00 GPA in Special Education, is attempting to become the first player in the program's history to be named ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American twice. Last season, she earned third-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American honors. This season, she was named first-team All-Atlantic 10 for the second straight season. She has scored three goals and tallied six assists for 12 points. Her six assists this season have given her 30 for her career which moves her into a tie for the most career assists in the program's history. She now has 56 career points which is the seventh most in school history.
As a result of being named first-team academic all-district, these three student-athletes will represent the district on a national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
