Gregory and Burgin Earn All-Atlantic 10 Honors For The Second Straight Season

Senior guard Sabrina Gregory was named third-team All-Atlantic 10 and junior center Danielle Burgin earned honorable-mention All-Atlantic 10 honors

Two Charlotte 49ers women's basketball players, who helped the 49ers earn a first-round bye and the fourth seed in this week's A-10 Tournament, earned All-Atlantic 10 honors. Senior guard Sabrina Gregory (Fayetteville, North Carolina/E.E. Smith HS) was named third-team All-Atlantic 10 for the second straight season. Gregory was also named to the A-10 All-Defensive team as well as the A-10 Academic All-Conference team for the second straight season. Junior center Danielle Burgin (Asheville, NC/Asheville) earned honorable-mention All-Atlantic 10 honors.

Gregory leads the 49ers in scoring (10.9 ppg) and assists (116). She leads the Atlantic 10 in free-throw shooting with a school-record 87.8% from the line. Earlier this season, she became the 15th player in school history to score 1,000 career points and she currently is 11th in school history with 1,274 career points. This season, she has earned A-10 Player of the Week honors twice. She was named A-10 Player of the Week after scoring 19 points to go along with six assists and six steals in the 49ers victory over ACC foe Virginia Tech, December 16. Then, she claimed her second A-10 Player of the Week award after collecting her first career double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds in the 49ers A-10 season opening win at Duquesne, January 12. Gregory recorded her second career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in the 49ers win over La Salle, January 30. She set the program's career games played record by playing in her 123rd career game in the 49ers victory over Richmond last Saturday. She will finish her career at Charlotte ranked among the program's career leaders in points, assists, steals, field goals made, minutes played and games played.

Gregory, who has a 3.74 GPA in Mathematics for Business, just recently was named first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for the second straight year.

Burgin, who earned third-team All-Atlantic 10 honors last season, is tied with Gregory for the team lead in scoring at 10.9 points per game. She is fourth in the A-10 in rebounding with a team-leading 8.4 boards per game. Burgin has collected a team-leading eight double-doubles this season. She has recorded 19 double-figure scoring games and 10 double-figure rebounding games this season. She earned the Atlantic 10's first Player of the Week award this season after posting double-doubles against Pittsburgh and Penn State in the 49ers season-opening weekend of action at the WBCA Classic, November 9-11. She enters the A-10 Tournament with 113 career blocked shots which is the sixth highest total in school history.

Burgin, Gregory and the rest of the 49ers women's basketball team returns to action in the Atlantic 10 Tournament Quarterfinals where they will face the winner of the Dayton-Massachusetts game, Saturday, March 8 at 2 pm at Saint Joseph's Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
