Kelly Stevenson joined the Charlotte 49ers staff as director of basketball operations this past May. Stevenson, a former team captain at the University of Florida, came to Charlotte after spending last season as an assistant coach at Furman University. "Kelly played at a high level and understands where we are going," Charlotte head coach Amanda Butler said. "Her experience as a Division I assistant coach last season, will make her an outstanding director of basketball operations. She is a hard working, organized and detail-oriented person who will be a great asset in many ways for our program." In her one season at Furman, she helped the program record 18 wins while working primarily with the guards. Her other duties at Furman were recruiting, film exchange coordinator and summer camp director. Before embarking on her coaching career, Stevenson graduated with a bachelor's degree in exercise and sports sciences from Florida in 2004. She was a three-time member of the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor roll. In 2002-03, she was named to the SEC Good Works team for her community service. As a junior, she was named team tri-captain. She scored a career-high 16 points on four three-point field goals in a career-high 39 minutes at Cal-Santa Barbara as a sophomore in 2002. However, due to two knee injuries, she was limited to two seasons of action on the court for the Gators after transferring from Jacksonville University in 2000. She began her collegiate career at Jacksonville in 1999. She became the first-ever player signed by the Jacksonville women's basketball program which began its inaugural season in 1999-00. She saw action in 18 games and averaged 5.9 points a game as a freshman. "I'm honored to be a part of such an exciting and up and coming program," Stevenson said. "I have a chance to contribute to a championship-level team, and grow as a coach from the experience I'll get being at Charlotte and working under Coach Butler."
