"Brenda brings a unique background to our staff after having played and coached in the ACC," Charlotte head coach Amanda Butler said. "Her experience will be valuable to our program since we are constantly competing with ACC schools. She will truly be an asset." Kirkpatrick spent the 2004-05 season as a member of the Jacksonville coaching staff. While at Jacksonville, she served as the recruiting coordinator as well as handling the budget, equipment and scouting. She primarily worked with the post players. Before going to Jacksonville, she spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Georgia Tech. In her first season, she played an integral role in helping the Yellow Jackets win 20 games and reach the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the program's history. During the 2002-03 season, Georgia Tech won 19 regular season games which is the most in school history. She played a major role in helping three players earn All-ACC honors in 2003. Before joining the coaching ranks, she spent the 2001-02 season playing professionally for Nantes-Reze 44 in Nantes, France. Her professional career came after a successful four-year playing career at Wake Forest. She was a team captain as a junior and senior, starting every game and averaging 9.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game. She earned honorable mention All-ACC honors after averaging 10 points and 6.2 rebounds per game as a senior in 2001. She was a first-team academic all-district selection and a four-year member of the ACC student-athlete honor roll. She earned a bachelor's in history and sociology in 2000 and a master's in education in 2001. "I was extremely honored and excited when Amanda Butler offered the opportunity to be a member of this coaching staff," Kirkpatrick said. "Charlotte has so much to offer the student-athlete and it is truly a very special environment for women's basketball. I have always respected and admired Coach Butler for her drive and ability to recruit elite student athletes. We have an amazing staff and a great of group of student-athletes to work with. I am looking forward to another successful year in the Atlantic 10 Conference."
