Donald Edwards is in his first season as a director of basketball operations. Edward joined the 49ers staff after spending two seasons as the Charlotte 49ers women's basketball program's head manager.

"With the completion of my coaching staff, I was able to look within the program to fill the Director of Operations," Charlotte head coach Karen Aston said. "I am pleased to fill this position with Donald Edwards. He has been involved in Charlotte basketball in many areas for several years and I can't say enough about his passion for the game and our program. He is hungry to do whatever is necessary and I was impressed with his willingness to be involved in any area when I arrived on campus. Donald is familiar with the surroundings and our current players, and will be able to aide in the transition for everyone in a very positive light. You can tell when he walks in the door that he is all about the 49ers!

Edwards has been associated with the 49ers women's basketball program for the past three years. The last two years, he traveled with the team as the head manager. He spent the 2004-05 season as a practice player for the women's team.

The Lenoir, North Carolina native will graduate from Charlotte with a degree in Communications with a concentration in Mass Media and a minor in America Studies later this summer.

Edwards as the director of operations will be responsible for team travel, coordinating the duties of the managers and working camps as well as various other duties that help 49ers women's basketball program run smoothly.

"I am very grateful to be working with such a great teacher and coach in Karen Aston," Edwards said. "The staff here at Charlotte is wonderful and I am very thankful for the opportunity they have given me to start my career here. The sky is the limit here at Charlotte and I am excited about continuing to be a part of this great program."
