Charlotte, NC - Charlotte 49ers men's soccer sophomore goalkeeper David Martin (Timnath, CO/Fort Collins HS) was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after his performance in goal against Rhode Island and Massachusetts this past weekend.
Martin is the fourth 49ers men's soccer player to claim A-10 Player of the Week honors this season. Sophomore midfielder Luke Exley, junior forward Chris Salvaggione and senior forward Tom Woollard are the other three 49ers that have garnered A-10 Player of the Week honors this season. Martin, Salvaggione, Woollard and Exley join former 49ers standout and current Chicago Fire midfielder Floyd Franks as 49ers men's soccer players that have earned A-10 Player of the Week honors in the program's history.
Martin, who earned A-10 Rookie of the Week honors twice last season, limited Rhode Island and Massachusetts, the top two teams in the A-10 standings entering the weekend, to one goal in 200 minutes of action this weekend. Martin allowed only one goal and recorded eight saves in the 49ers 1-1 double overtime tie with Rhode Island, Friday. Then, he collected his 11th career shutout after recording six saves in the 49ers 1-0 win over Massachusetts, Sunday.
For the season, Martin has only allowed 13 goals in over 1,110 minutes of action. He has a 1.05 goals against average with four shutouts and 58 saves this season.
Martin, Exley, Salvaggione, Woollard and the rest of the 49ers men's soccer team travel to Atlantic 10 foes George Washington and Richmond this weekend, October 26-28.
