The 49ers reached their first-ever A-10 Tournament Championship game last November

March 12, 2008

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte 49ers men's soccer team, who won 12 games and reached the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship game last season, begin their spring practices this week. During the spring, the 49ers will play nine exhibition matches beginning with a home game against Sports Ed at Transamerica Field, Tuesday, March 25 at 8 pm.

"It has been a long off season and the boy's have worked very hard lifting and running with our strength and conditioning coach Scott Lucas," said Charlotte coach Jeremy Gunn, who just completed his first season as the 49ers head coach. "Now we are all excited to get back on the field training and playing and ultimately building on the success we had last fall."

The 49ers return 15 letterwinners from last season's A-10 Tournament Runner-Up team led by All-Atlantic 10 selections forward Chris Salvaggione and midfielder Will Shull.

The 49ers play nine games during the spring with five of those games being played at the 49ers' Transmamerica Field.

"We have an exciting and competitive spring schedule that should challenge a developing young team," Gunn said.

After the 49ers play Sports Ed on March 25, Charlotte faces crosscounty rival Davidson at Transamerica Field, Saturday, March 29 at 7 pm. Then, the 49ers travel to the University of South Carolina to play South Carolina and Clayton State, Saturday, April 5 at 10 am and 11:45 am respectively.

Charlotte returns to Transamerica Field for an exhibition match against the city's professional soccer team, the Charlotte Eagles, Tuesday, April 8 at 7 pm. Then, the 49ers battle Appalachian State and James Madison in their final two spring road games at Appalachian State, Saturday, April 12 at 1 pm and 2:15 pm respectively.

The 49ers conclude their spring season with two games. First, they face a team of former 49ers soccer standouts, Saturday, April 19 at 4 pm. Then, the 49ers conclude their spring schedule at Campbell, Wednesday, April 23 at 6:30 pm.
