Philip Poole is in his second season as a member of the 49ers coaching staff. He serves as the team's goalkeeper coach. "I am excited every time I set foot inside and around the wonderful facilities here at Charlotte," Poole said. "To work alongside coach Jeremy Gunn and some of the brightest players in the nation is a dream come true for any coach." Poole is currently a director of coaching for the South Charlotte Soccer Association. He also serves as a member of the North Carolina Olympic Development Goalkeeper coaching staff. He is also part of the Region III ODP coaching staff. He was an assistant coach with the Charlotte Eagles men's and women's professional soccer teams in 2006. Prior to those coaching positions, he spent a season as an assistant coach at his alma mater Wingate University. During his playing career at Wingate, he was a four-year starter as well as two-time team captain, who led the Bulldogs to two South Atlantic Conference championships in his career. He was named SAC Freshman of the Year in 2000. He also earned all-conference and all-southeast region honors in his career. He graduated from Wingate in 2004 with a degree in Parks and Recreation management. The Newcastle, England native, played as a youth player with Newcastle United before spending three seasons with the Hull City AFC. He holds a USSF "B" License, a NSCAA Premier Diploma and a National Goalkeeper Diploma as well as multiple coaching licenses with the English FA. Poole and his wife Melissa reside in Charlotte. They have a daughter, Isabella, that was born this past year.
