THE GAME: The sixth-seeded Charlotte 49ers (20-12; 9-7) rallied from an 18-point second half deficit to defeat #3 seed UMass, 69-65, Thursday. The win sends the 49ers into Friday's 9:00 A-10 semifinal game with Temple (Radio: WFNA, 1660 AM - Matt Swierad; TV: CBS College Sports, TWC). Senior Leemire Goldwire hit 3-of-3 three-pointers in the final 3:18, including the go ahead basket with 1:04 to play and the icing three with 18 seconds left. Goldwire hit 3-of-3 threes in the final 3:05 of the first round game vs. Rhode Island, rallying Charlotte from a six-point deficit. Goldwire is averaging 23.5 points in the 49ers two A-10 Tourney games.

OF LATE: Charlotte has won five in a row, matching their longest winning streak of the last three years and are a perfect 5-0 in March. The four-point win over UMass improves Charlotte's record to 7-6 in games decided by four points or less. 23 of Charlotte's 32 games have been decided by seven points or less (Charlotte is 13-10 in those games). Charlotte also improved to 9-8 in games in which it has trailed at the half. Last year, Charlotte was 1-11 when trailing at the half. The 49ers trailed at the half of each of their last three wins, including a 17-point deficit to UMass -- considered the biggest comeback in A-10 Tournament history.

Only scoring leader Leemire Goldwire (19.1 ppg) and sixth-man Ian Andersen averaged more than 6.0 minutes for the 49ers, last year. Juniors Lamont Mack, and Charlie Coley, sophomores Dijuan Harris, Michael Gerrity and Phil Jones and freshmen An'Juan Wilderness, Charles Dewhurst and Gaby Ngoundjo are playing in their 1st season for the 49ers.
