Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers baseball team will begin their defense of the 2007 Atlantic 10 title when they host Saint Louis for a three-game series, beginning Friday night at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium at 6 p.m.

The Niners plowed through the A-10 in 2007, winning a league-record 23 games against four losses en route to the program's third NCAA postseason appearance.

So far this season, Charlotte is 14-2, with a perfect 12-0 record at home. The Niners have won their last 14 contests at Hayes Stadium, and are 25-3 since the new park opened on March 30, 2007. Last weekend, Charlotte got its first complete-game effort of the season when junior starter Zach Rosenbaum won a 6-1 decision over Stony Brook at home. It was his first nine-inning effort in his career.

Saint Louis is 8-8 on the season, coming off a shutout of 2007 regional participant Ohio State Wednesday on a complete-game shutout by senior B.J. Rodrigue.

Charlotte had its Wednesday game halted and suspended by rain in the seventh inning at North Carolina A&T State. The game is to be resumed and finished on April 8, when the Aggies visit the Queen City.

The Niners were selected to win the league for the second straight year by the league's coaches. Saint Louis was picked to finish tenth.

In other news, senior catcher Chris Taylor was listed in the Rivals.com by-position power rankings as one of the nation's top catchers. He is moving up the list, and is currently 12th on their most recent list.

Saturday, the two teams face off at 2 p.m., with the series finale taking place on Easter Sunday at noon. It is the first of nine straight conference weekends for Charlotte, its third in the A-10. Charlotte has finished fourth and first in two seasons in league play.
