Bronx, N.Y. - The Charlotte 49ers suffered their first shutout against an Atlantic 10 team in a 10-0 defeat on the road at Fordham in baseball action Friday afternoon at Houlihan Park. The loss drops Charlotte to third place in the A-10 at 12-7, with an overall record of 32-13. The Rams improve to 26-19-1, 10-9 in the league.

Fordham starter Tom Davis improved to 7-2 as he tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and three walks, striking out seven.

Fordham scored seven runs in the second on Charlotte freshman starter Joe Yermal on four hits, an error and three walks. Yermal walked a career-high four and took a line drive off his shin in the inning. It was his shortest start of the season and the first loss of his career (7-1). He gave up only four hits and struck out a batter. Six of the seven runs were earned.

The Rams got a run in the fifth and two in the eighth against reliever Andrew Smith, who pitched the last five frames for Charlotte, tying his career-high for innings pitched in a relief appearance. He struck out five and gave up three hits and four walks.

Shortstop Shayne Moody had two hits for Charlotte, which was the game-high. Brad McElroy, double, an infield single by Alan Parks and a pinch-hit single to right center by Alex Bryant were the other Charlotte base hits. The Niners left nine on base, including the bases loaded in the third.

A pair of right-handed pitchers will start Saturday's contest. Zach Rosenbaum for Charlotte will oppose J.P. Mack of Fordham in the game, which is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

NOTES: Charlotte has not been shutout in their last 74 road games, since a 6-0 loss at East Carolina on March 26, 2005.
