Charlotte, N.C. - The Charlotte 49ers set season highs for hits, runs and RBI in a 23-5 game-one win at home to Stony Brook Sunday afternoon at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium.
The Niners improve to 13-2, winners of all 11 home games this season.
Senior catcher Chris Taylor had a game-high five RBI with a pair of doubles in the contest. Alex Burt went 5-for-6 with four RBI, tying his career-best hits total. Aaron Bray, Brad McElroy, Corey Shaylor, Grant Bomann and O'Brien Taylor all had a pair of runs driven in.
Charlotte freshman starter Joe Yermal gave up a run in the first inning and three in the fourth, but lasted six innings to get the win (3-0). He scattered five hits and struck out five runs in the outing. Michael Maples (two innings) and Kelly McLain (one inning) made scoreless appearances for Charlotte on the mound.
Stony Brook starter Gary Novakowski took the loss (1-2). He lasted an inning and a third, allowing 10 earned runs on nine hits and three walks.
Charlotte put a season-high eight runs in the second inning and scored in six of their eight at-bats.
Designated hitter Mike Stephan hit a two-run home run in the third inning for the Seawolves, who drop to 4-4 on the season.
