Greenville, S.C. - Behind yet another strong performance by junior Aja Jackson, the Charlotte 49ers women's cross country team took the team title at the Furman Invitational Saturday morning. The men's team, led by sophomore Chase Eckard, finished second overall.

Jackson, placing third overall, led the scoring for the 49ers' women's team, pacing freshmen Amanda Goetschius (10th), Keara Thomas (13th), Laura McCary (18th), Christina Hobbs (23rd), Kelsey Conroy (30th) and junior Liana Blue (31st).

The women's team, with a combined score of 60, bested Clemson (79), host Furman (84), East Carolina (124), North Florida (167), College of Charleston (171), Winthrop (213), Tennessee Tech (224), Marshall (227), VMI (239), Miami (289), Georgia Southern (378), East Tennessee State (387), Wofford (412), USC Upstate (414), Presbyterian College (450), Benedict (518), North Greenville (534) and Paine College (606).

Eckard, coming in seventh overall, paced the scoring members of the men's team, including sophomore Jordan Rickard (14th), freshman Dakota Lowery (19th), sophomore Alan Ford (24th), sophomore Travis Brotherton (33rd), sophomore Isaiah Shirlen (58th), and sophomore Aaron Kauffman (72nd).

 

 

The men's team, with a combined score of 83, finished behind East Tennessee State, who posted a team scored of 40. The 49ers bested Winthrop (91), Marshall (105), Furman (114), Davidson (116), VMI (117), Miami (198), North Florida (277), East Carolina (301), Tennessee Tech (311), College of Charleston (236), Spartanburg Methodist (338), Wofford (398), Presbyterian (448), USC Upstate (470), North Greenville (543) and Paine College (586).

Charlotte returns to the trail for the Atlantic 10 Championship Saturday, October 27 in Philadelphia.
