Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49er senior outside hitter Alma Arroyo was today named to the second team "ESPN The Magazine" Academic All-District Three volleyball team. The teams are selected by the Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Arroyo, who had a grade point average of 3.71 in Pre-Kinesiology as of the start of this semester, leads the team on the floor in kills this season, with 403. The San Juan, Puerto Rico native is ranked third in the Atlantic 10 in kills per game and fourth in the league in points per game entering play this week. Earlier this season, she became only the 14th player in Charlotte history to reach the 1,000-kill mark. Two weeks ago, she broke the school record with 32 kills in a four-game match. With 1,330 career kills, Arroyo is on pace to finish with the 7th-best career total in team history. She is also on pace to finish with the third-best points per game average in the Niners record books. She has been on the Atlantic-10 First-team all-conference list, as well as on the All-Academic and Commissioner's Honor Rolls.
In her four seasons, Charlotte has won 70 matches to this point in her career.
Charlotte plays at George Washington Friday night and will await other league results to see if it will qualify for the six-team Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championships the following weekend, hosted by Charlotte.
