Chris Redding comes to Charlotte after four seasons as an assistant with the University of Alabama, which made its only two NCAA Tournament appearances in the past two seasons. Prior to his time with the Crimson Tide, Redding was the head coach of Appalachian State University from 1999 to 2003, appearing in the Southern Conference tournament three of his four seasons at the helm.
"Chris came highly recommended to us from individuals that we have great respect for," said Charlotte Director of Athletics Judy Rose. "After interviewing him, we confirmed all of the positive things we had heard about him. I believe that he will challenge our players to be the best they can and that we will be one of the top teams in the A-10."
Redding has 14 years of collegiate volleyball coaching experience and has been an assistant at the University of Florida, the University of North Florida, the University of the Pacific and Cal State Bakersfield. Redding is no stranger to the National Tournament scene. He has been on staff with teams making six NCAA Division I tournament appearances, including a Final Four team with Florida in 1998. At the Division II level, Redding was on the staff of two-time National Runner-Up, Cal-State Bakersfield.
"I am very excited for the opportunity to coach in a growing volleyball community at Charlotte," said Redding. "The program has demonstrated some success in recent years and I hope to help the team continue to excel in the Atlantic 10."
"My time in Boone will be very helpful in my learning curve as I come back to North Carolina. Charlotte is a special city and the area drew a lot of my interest in this position. They have an experienced team that is on an upward trend that I hope to continue."
On the club level Redding has directed the 18-and-under division of the Jacksonville Juniors and was co-director of the Appalachian Avalanche. He has also coached at the club level with the 17-and-under Gainesville Junior Club and the 18 and 16 Elite Teams at the Kern River Volleyball Club.
Redding graduated from the State University of New York at Cortland in 1990 with a degree in Health Education.
