Niners Prepare for Busiest Weekend in Program History

Charlotte Sends 94 Athletes to Four Meets

April 17, 2008

Charlotte, N.C. - After turning in a successful week at the Sea Ray Relays and sweeping the Atlantic 10 Outdoor Track and Field weekly awards, the Charlotte 49ers will embark on the busiest weekend of program history this weekend, sending nearly a hundred athletes to four separate meets across the nation. In four weekends of competition thus far this season, twelve athletes have posted NCAA Regional qualifying performances in 14 different events.

"This is the busiest weekend in the history of the track and field program," head coach Bob Olesen said. "We will be competing 94 athletes at four different track and field meets across the country. The weekend plan is in line with my vision for the program as it provides the opportunity for as many athletes as possible to succeed in the sport at conference, regional and national levels."

The bulk of the team will contest the Davidson Invitational Saturday, while a number of sprinters will race at North Carolina A&T on both Friday and Saturday. Several other distance runners will travel to Princeton.

On Friday, senior steeplechase standout Tsehaye Dagnachew, who is currently ranked sixth regionally and 19th nationally in the event, will head west to southern California and the Mt. SAC Relays in search of fast competition. Niner fans will be able to watch her event broadcast live on Flocasts.com at 10:20 a.m. EST.

Currently, the following Charlotte tracksters have posted NCAA Regional qualifiers: Courtney Patterson (100m, 200m), Lamarra Currie (100m, 200m), Aja Jackson (800m), Dagnachew (Steeplechase), Sunita Brathwaite (100m hurdlers), Women's 4x100m relay, Pat Springs (Long Jump), Danielle Brown (Triple Jump), Darius Law (400m), Adu Dentamo (Steeplechase), Korel Mack (110m hurdles) and LaMarcus Outing (Long Jump).
