Charlotte, N.C. - In the best performance of any Charlotte track and field athlete--current or former--four-time All-American Shareese Woods won two bronze medals at the World Indoor Track and Field Championships in Valencia, Spain. She lowered her lifetime best 400m dash time throughout the three rounds of competition, finishing third in the final with a 51.41 behind Russians Olesya Zykina and former world champion Natalya Nazarova, who ran 51.09 and 51.10, respectively. In her fourth 400 of the weekend and second of the day, Woods ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay, recording the fastest split of the USA squad that finished third in 3:29.30 behind Russia and Belarus.
"Shareese did an awesome meeting the challenge of the highly competitive rounds of competition and responding with four world level times," Charlotte 49er track and field head coach Bob Olesen said. "This meet challenged her like no other meet has in her career and she really came through, leaving no doubt she's ready for future international competition."
49er fans can catch the broadcast of the meet at 6 p.m. tonight on the Versus Channel, with a re-showing at 10 p.m.
