The Charlotte 49ers continued their hot home ways by holding visiting Presbyterian to just four hits and winning their sixth straight contest by defeating the Blue Hose 11-3 Monday evening at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium in college baseball action. Charlotte 49ers women's basketball coach Karen Aston has announced that former Charlotte prep standout point guard Kendria Holmes (Charlotte, NC/Victory Christian) will transfer into the 49ers program from Providence College. Holmes, who earned Big East Conference All-Freshman team honors in 2007, led the Friars in scoring as a sophomore last year averaging 11.3 points while dishing out 117 assists. Read Full Release

Winning their fourth consecutive title and NCAA Tournament automatic bid, the top-seeded Massachusetts Minutewomen (39-11) shutout the Charlotte 49ers (35-30) 3-0 Saturday afternoon in the final day of action at the 2008 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship at Charlotte's Phillips Softball Complex. Charlotte, the third seed, advanced to the championship game after rallying past fourth-seeded Fordham (36-30) 2-1 in the rescheduled ninth game of the tournament. Read Full Release

Charlotte third baseman Aaron Bray stole home to break open a four-all tie in the sixth inning and the 49ers added five more unanswered runs in a 10-4 Atlantic 10 Conference baseball victory Saturday afternoon to complete the weekend sweep at Robert and Mariam Hayes Stadium. Charlotte clinched a spot in the Atlantic 10 Tournament and remains in first place in the league at 17-7, with 37 overall wins in 50 games this year (37-13). Read Full Release

Charlotte baseball concludes its regular season slate with a three-game series against conference foe Rhode Island Thursday-Saturday.
Baseball senior Chris Taylor, who will be playing the final home regular season series of his career this weekend against Rhode Island, is putting his name all over the 49ers career hitting records. He enters the week in third place on the 49ers all-time RBI list with 202 runs batted in.
